Apple Found Violations among the Suppliers

Apple has found many workplace violations among its suppliers. The company finds for about 17 core violations that run counter to the Supplier’s Code of Conduct. The Suppplier Code of Conduct as well as the site audits aims to protect the rights of the workers and to improve the condition of the factories. The 17 core violations are three violations of hiring underage workers, three violations of using noncertified vendors for the disposal of dangerous waste, three violations related to the presentation of falsified records during the process of auditing, and eight violations related to excessive fees for recruitment.

Apple did not mention which suppliers or the countries in which they find the violations. Related to violations of hiring underage workers, it is reported that three facilities had haired 15 years old worker in the country where the minimum age for employees is 16 years old.

In addition, Apple said it found records of 11 workers who had been hired before reaching that minimum age, though those people were no longer underage or were no longer actively employed at the facilities. Apple said that it needs more than ID checks and procedures of verification to deal with this violation in the future. Related to the dangerous waste disposal, Apple asked three facilities to stop shipping waste and hire certified vendors to manage hazardous waste.
