Google keeps making innovation on technology, One of their invention is a prototype for a new mirror technology that will cut the cost of a solar thermal plant by half. It is reported that if the development runs well, the product will be ready and available in one to three years.
In making this prototype, Google has looked for unusual materials for the reflective surface of the mirror and the substrate as well. The energy of sun is used to heat a substance so that it can produce steam to run a turbine. Mirrors focus on the sun light on the substance that is heated. Google, as a giant search engine company, wants to cut the cost of making heliostats that is used to track the sun. It is predicted that with the new prototype, they can have a two times reduction in cost.
Dealing with global warming, it can be seen that global companies try to get involved in saving the environment by investing green technology that could limit the greenhouse gas emissions. Google itself has invested in two companies of solar thermal, BrightSource and eSolar. Hopefully, the new invention really brings great advantages to the world and can prevent global warming.
