We are all fed up with identity theft issue. There are so many kinds of protection to prevent the identity theft. We have heard about biometric identity verification like irises and fingerprint scans. Recently, the researchers in the University of Bath developed a new identification technique using a nose scanner.
The research was led by Dr. Adrian Evans. It uses Photoface which is a 3D photographic system. It works by taking pictures of volunteers in different angles. The results were processed by computer software that analyze the shadows, colors, surface and depth of the point of the face. It is done in order to get image with unparalleled detail. The research team focused on the characteristics of the ridge profile, nose tip and naison, a part between eyes and top of nose. The result of the ridge’s curvature with the combination result of tip and nasion allowed the researchers to six main nose groups which are Roman, Greek, Nubian, Hawk, Snub, and Turn-up.
Moreover, the accuracy of the technique has a high rate of success in identifying 36 volunteers. Dr. Evan claimed the nose is easier to photograph. Thus, identifying nose is a better way to conceal surveillance. Although the technique was only applied for small number of people but it is worth to try.
