The Defense Department which previously did not want to cooperate with social networking service and made everything confidential has made its peace with various social media. The U.S. Department of Defense says that they have no problem with social networking services and interactive applications. It is reported that the agency’s nonclassified network will be arranged to provide access to all Defense components. The U.S. Department of Defense recognizes that social networks are effective tools to interact with the agency and with general public.
However, it does not mean that The Defense Department will support malicious activity on the networks of military information. They still continue to fight deny access to forbidden content sites such as gambling and pornography. Moreover, they still keep the balance between use of Internet-based tools and network security. They want to separate those two objects. It is because if they are too concern on the security, they are not able to access information sharing. On the other side, if they are too concern on information sharing, they will let get issues of operational security.
The military have used social-networking services for some time such as blogs, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and the like. They are recognized to play important roles for people’s daily life.
