Japanese is known as a country with remarkable improvements of technology. Fast updates of gadgets and devices are always held by competing Japanese manufacturers. One of the recent technologies which is produced massively and presented proudly by Japanese industry is three-dimensional television. Nowadays, there are only two electronic manufacturers, Panasonic and Sony which are aggressively introducing this product to Japanese people.
Curious about the development of the 3D TV marketing in Japan, Japanese well-known business newspaper, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, also known as Nikkei, held a research toward Japanese 3D TV market. Nikkei’s findings are quite surprising. The Japanese are not familiar with the television model that Panasonic and Sony had to cut 20% off the 3D TVs to promote the model and re-introduced the product in spring 2010. The lowered price of Japanese 3D TV is still 30-50% above the price of standard 2D TVs.
Furthermore, Nikkei revealed that the market rate for the 3D TV is very low. From the research done in August 2-8, 2010, of all 40†or larger televisions which were sold over Japan, only 2.6% were the 3D TV. Nikkei predicted that the 3D TV market will be improved if Toshiba, Mitsubishi, and Hitachi join the competition of 3D TV market of this year.
