Japanese electronic manufacturer, Sony, has announced to release six types of DVRs. Two days before, rival manufacturer, Panasonic also declared to release the same product type. The DVRs released by Sony will comprise the BDXL technology with different size of capacity.
The BDXL-writing DVRs are announced to range from 320 Gb to 2 Tb capacities. Among the six DVRs, five will be equipped with dual tubers while one type will come to the market with only single tuner. The tuners installed in the DVRs are promoted to be able to write up to 100 Gb of BDXL disks. These six products from Sony are fortunately compatible with traditional Blu-ray media players.
The six DVRs are also foretold to supporting the three dimension playback since Sony predicted that customer who uses the BDXL are more likely to have the three dimension HDTV also. There are no confirmations from Sony on how much each of the products will cost. Clearly, the new DVR model with storage capacity of 2 Tb will be launched at the Japanese market in September 25, 2010. This is only the first step of the launching. For other new DVRs in different storage capacities, BDXL lovers will have to patiently wait until October 22, 2010.
