Google Chrome Cr-48 is Available for Public Beta

As promised few days ago, Google finally unveils its Chrome OS laptop. It is named Cr-48. The name sounds awkward, combining alphabets and number, even though this is the first series of Chrome OS laptop. Google promises that this is a very fast laptop. It boots in 10 seconds. However, it is not a finished product. Google still has to work with other hard drive manufacturers to supply the components, particularly USB ports and cameras.

Google announced the laptop in the Chrome event. The laptop will be available to public through Chrome OS Pilot Program in term of public beta. Since it is a public beta, the Google Chrome Cr-48 is not for sale. Any individual can apply to join the program even though the number of the products is limited. It is released as a test product and the public products will be available from Acer and Samsung. The products are set to release in the second semester of 2011.

Google Cr-48 is built with a 12.1-inch LCD screen. Its mid-range size is seemingly designed for home users and mobile users. There is a full-size keyboard and oversized click-pad. In addition, there are 802.11n dual-band Wi-Fi, webcam, and a flash storage. The laptop is equipped with a battery that may last eight hours in active use and up to 8 days in standby mode.
