Even though the popularity of Internet Explorer has not been fading out of the competition, Microsoft facilitates the users of Windows 7 who choose to browse internet by using Firefox. Microsoft has its own reason. It releases a H.264 video plug-in for Windows 7 Firefox users. It is designed to overcome the limitations in handling H.264 encoded videos as previously faced by the Firefox users on HTML5 pages.
Previously, Mozilla did not support H.264 video technology that the Firefox users could not play the video content in the browser. To play the video tags, now the users can use Windows Media Player plug-in that parses HTML 5 pages. The release of H.264 video plug-in for Windows 7 Firefox users greatly facilitates the Firefox users in accessing the video contents in the web browser. The H.264 video plug-in can be used for wide arrays of web applications.
Actually, Microsoft is not the first to make advantage of the technology. Notable video resources like YouTube, iTunes, Adobe Flash, and Microsoft Silverlight use the technology. It seems that high cost associated with the technology royalty is the reason for Mozilla to miss the video support technology. On the other hand, Google has introduced its own video support technology, which it calls WebM. Now, there is a technological war between H.264 and WebM. The browsers can decide to choose either of the technologies.
