NVIDIA has proved that it can move beyond just providing the laptop and PC producers with graphic cards. Its graphic devices have been the cornerstone of CPU development. On December 5th 2010, OEM introduced the GeForce GT 540M notebook GPU. According to NVIDIA, this is the first GPU in its GeForce 500M family of notebook. OEM launched notebooks, which is optimized using GeForce GT 540M GPUs and dual core CPU.
In terms of specs, the GeForce GT 540M does not seem to show significant difference from those of 400M family. There are 96 CUDA cores and 128-bit memory interface. However, in the new GeForce GT 540M, NVIDIA proves the maturity in its capability for developing items with proven architecture. This is translated by building the GPU with higher-performance features and higher clock speeds while maintaining low power consumption. The consumers can expect better overall performance and significant increase in memory max speed of up to 900MHz.
The GeForce GT 540M notebook GPU will be available soon in China. Acer will be the first to take advantage of the technology. Engadget found that Acer would integrate it into Acer Aspire 4741G. It is allegedly built with a 2.66GHz Intel Core i5-480M processor, 4GB of RAM, a 640GB HDD, a Blu-ray disc drive, and a 14-inch screen. The Acer Aspire 4741G will be available next month. Let’s see the truth.
