If you look back to the 2011 CES event, which were held in the beginning of January this year, you may recall when LucidLogix vowed to release LucidLogix Virtu software application. It is designed to allow an operating system to exchange between Sandy Bridge CPU and any discrete GPU in an automatic way. It is true that LucidLogix Virtu software is now available as free trial only. However, you have a chance to be the first to witness the functionality of the application.
The application is bestowed with a capability to choose between the two GPUs. The application is particularly helpful in reducing the energy consumption when the computer is in idle position. In such a condition, LucidLogix Virtu will automatically switch the GPU into a low-consumption one. There are two modes indicating which GPU is in use. They are d-Mode, which is used when the screen is connected to the discrete GPU, and i-Mode when the screen is connected to Sandy Bridge GPU.
Switching between two GPUs occurs with power and work conditions in consideration. LucidLogix Virtu has a natural ability to detect the workload of the GPUs. Overall, the application is ideal for users who prefer feature-rich system and power efficiency to work at the same time. When you work with heavyweight system, i-Mode is on, but when your computer is idle, d-Mode is on.
