Intel formally launched SATA platform that is based on Second Generation Intel Core processor on the final day of February. The coming of Intel SSD 510 Series proves that Intel is never satisfied with what it has achieved. Even though the previous generation of SSD did not receive much criticism in terms of speed, Intel keeps providing the customers with the latest innovation. The newest SSD comes with 6Gbps SATA interface.
Intel targets the gamers and those who work in media and workstation. So, what does Intel offer with SSD 510 Series? Firstly, Intel promises faster and more data transfer. The SSD outperforms the conventional HDD by fifty percents. Intel claims that Intel SSD 510 comes with the fastest available sequential performance. The SSD supports data transfer up to 500 MB per second, with read speeds of 315 MB per second. Intel enhances read speeds three times of the existing 3Gbps SSD.
In its Press Release from Santa Clara, Intel states that the SSD is most suitable for applications that need high sequential media transfer. Besides the superiority in the speed, the customers will also see the improvement in the system responsiveness and ruggedness. Unlike the standard hard drive, the 6Gbps SATA interface does not have moving parts. Therefore, it is less sensitive to external factors such as shock. More importantly, the SSD requires less power.
