Apple will unveil their next major version of Mac OS X, which may be the last version of their desktop operating system as we know it. Mac OS X has been a great operation system which is very user-friendly meaning 99% of the service is what users wanted. So far Apple has been developing the OS for both power user on the desktop and touch computer. Mac OS X Lion is aiming in merging both user experience –desktop and touch- into a single one.

Lion will be the last to the saga of Mac OS X big cats and the transitional to the next generation gadget. It will not remove the desktop operation system although now most of new gadgets are using touch screen. Lion is a powerful and sophisticated operation system but with the simplicity to user interface. In this OS, Apple is introducing new interface elements like Mission Control, to help solve the problems that modal interfaces may bring.

From the demo, this OS has revealed some of its other features beside Mission Control like Launchpad and Mac App Store. This operation system will not make computer to be used only for computer scientist but it will also be a practical tool and source of enjoyment for people in offices and studios.

AirMediaPlayer That Allows the Users of Windows PCs to Stream Video via Airplay

Few days ago, Apple noted that its AirPlay media player is working on Windows PCs. Airplay allows the owners of iOS 4.2 to stream media to the Macs or Linux devices. Now, it is the time for AirMediaPlayer to come to Windows PC.  It means that the users of Windows PCs have the same advantage to enjoy the same convenience. The player works effectively on PCs that run Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 SPI.

Devices that support Hello for Windows (included iTunes or Bonjour for Windows) and QuickTime can benefit from the device. The advantage of the player is that, after installed, it allows the users of iPad, iPhone, or iPod to stream video or music directly to a Windows PC – a convenience that has been enjoyed by Mac users. More interestingly, sending the video or music from the iPhone does not require the users to connect the device to the specified PCs.

AirMediaPlayer for Windows PCs has been available now for free download. Actually, the availability of the player is a little bit surprising since it was still in the development phase few days before, even though the coming of the player had been predicted for long. It is developed by Apostolos Georgiadis that designs the tool to stream the media via AirPlay. It is also built with backward compatibility that it works on any device equipped by AirPlay.

EFI Software Updates on the New MacBook from Apple

To fix some issues that have been frequently reported on the new MacBook Air laptops, Apple has released a software update targeting the EFI. Actually the issues have never publicly acknowledged, but the core of the problems will result in the Notebooks of MacBook Air to become unresponsive or to resume or boot from sleep. There are other reports saying that horizontal lines are sometimes coming on the display. Other reports tell that when waking the display it sometimes becomes discolored.

The issued update is called the EFI Firmware Update 2.0 for MacBook Air. It is hoped that the update will solve the rare issue of waking with black screen or becoming unresponsive. The update is recommended for all models of the MacBook Air for all 11-inch to 13-inch because both models are those that are highly affected. If you are the owners of these models, you should update your laptops with EFI Firmware Update 2.0 for MacBook Air.

To do the update, first your laptops’ power cord should be plugged and connected into a working power source. When they restart, to indicate the update’s progress, a grey screen will appear along with a status bar. You should wait until the status bar says complete to have your MacBook Air EFI updated.

Apples Prohibits Photofast’s MacBook Air Upgrade Kit before It Hits the Market

PhotoFast has not officially launches its MacBook Air SSD upgrade when Apple stops the sale of the product. According to some news account, Apple phoned the PhotoFast last week and asked it to halt the sale of the 256GB upgrade kit for MacBoook Airs. The case may remind the readers on what happened to HyperMac batteries before. The items were stopped before they even come into the market. Apple warned to halt PhotoFast’s access to Apple’s products if the MacBook Air SSD upgrade is not withdrawn.

It must be tough for PhotoFast to obey the threat since it will be faced with the risk of losing access to Apple’s product licensing program. Therefore, the MacBook Air users must be receptive to the writing and reading speeds of  160MBps before Apple is updating the speed itself to 250MBps, as offered by Photofast’s MackBook Air upgrade kit, or at least before Apple finds an appropriate timing or manufacturer for the MacBook Air SSD upgrade kit.

PhotoFast has no other option but to stop producing the SSD upgrade. It is because PhotoFast is in Apple’s MFi program and it does not want to lose everything. So far, no detailed confirmation on the reason of the halting request. Some people speculate that it is because Apple’s MBA partner, Toshiba, is producing the same SSD upgrade kits made of the exact same parts used in the MacBook Air.
