Latest news comes from South American country, Colombia. Recent products from two manufacturers based in Bogota prove that Colombia is not only famous with its tobacco products. Colombia can also build useful things in computing technology. Two companies mentioned, Compumax and Smart PC are reportedly to release tablet PCs to meet with public needs of portable PCs. Both Compumax and Smart PC confessed their products were originally built by in their factory, not just the rebranded ones. The wares needed tor the products, they said, were taken from outside Colombia. Both products use 10 inch screen displays.

Tablet PC made by the Compumax uses Android as the device’s platform and the combination of Tegra 2 and Cortex A9 1 GHZ for the power. The product from Compumax is also packed with a 32 Gb HDD and RAM with 512 Mb of capacity. This product is now on sale with the price COP 700,000 or $387.

As for the Smart PC, the company prefers to build a portable PC which is suitable for Windows 7 operating system. This device uses the processor Intel Atom N450, DVD writer, 320 HDD, and RAM which can be upgraded to 2 Gb. The product from Colombian Smart PC will be released in Peru on October 2010 with the price COP 1,099,000 or $608.

Initially, the WUSB chipset is intended for usages in devices like Televisions, Personal Computers, camcorders, and HD cameras. During the development process, it is possible for the chipset to also connect to other gadgets like printers, tablet PCs, portable Hard Drives, beam projectors, Blu-ray players, and cellular phones.

The chipset works by transmitting wireless content from portable devices to the said devices. The chipset does not consume a lot of power which is the winning feature of the new chipset. Averagely, the Samsung S3C2680/S5M8311 WUSB requires not more than 300 mW while working and able to deliver maximum 480 Mbps of data rate. The small power needed by the Samsung S3C2680/S5M8311 WUSB makes this chipset suitably used with portable devices.

The Samsung S3C2680/S5M8311 WUSB is made with the base of ARM 9 and equipped with the WiMedia v1.2 PHY. It is also attached controllers for SD card, SD host, SDIO and NAND. Today the Samsung S3C2680/S5M8311 WUSB is released just for the sample for certain consumers. The en masse manufacturing will be done in the last trimester of 2010.
